This past weekend, we wrapped up another Joinery Fest, and I have to say—it was one of the best days we’ve had at the shop. The energy was incredible. So many people came through the doors—members, friends, families, and curious neighbors—each drawn in by the smell of fresh sawdust, the hum of tools, and maybe a bit of nostalgia for a time when we used our hands more than our thumbs.
What struck me most wasn’t just the craftsmanship on display, but the conversations that happened in between. I heard stories from people who used to build with their parents or grandparents. Others talked about wanting to get away from screens for a while—wanting something real. It reminded me why The Joinery exists in the first place.
We live in a world that constantly asks for our attention. Phones buzz, inboxes fill, and we scroll without even realizing it. But the moment someone picks up a chisel, clamps a board, or wipes on a finish, that noise fades away. Woodworking demands focus. It rewards patience. And it gives something back—something tangible that doesn’t fit in a digital feed.
At Joinery Fest, you could feel that shift. Kids leaned over benches to see shavings curl off a hand plane. Adults lingered by the lathes, mesmerized by spinning wood transforming into something beautiful. For a few hours, everyone seemed fully present—and that’s something rare these days.
If you’ve been feeling that same pull to unplug and make something, you’re not alone. That spark you feel when you watch someone create—whether it’s turning a bowl, building a table, or carving a spoon—that’s the part of you that remembers what it means to make.
We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and shared stories. And if you’re reading this thinking, “I’d like to try that,” you’re exactly who we’re here for.
Come visit. Take a class. Spend a few hours shaping wood and letting the rest of the world wait. You might be surprised how good it feels to trade the glow of a screen for the warmth of real wood and real community.
