The Joinery is a premium craft experience with a simple mission: to grow the craft of woodworking and making. Unlike most maker spaces, The Joinery is staffed with experts who maintain the facility, keep the machinery in top condition, and provide high-quality instruction. We’re here not just to give you tools and space, but to help you gain confidence, skills, and community.
Membership is designed for people who are — or want to become — woodworking hobbyists. Whether you’re brand-new to woodworking or looking to deepen your craft, you’ll find a place to learn, collaborate, and create projects you may not have the space, tools, or support for anywhere else.
A Strong Start for Every Member
We want every new member to be successful — to walk into the shop with knowledge, confidence, and a clear path for growing their skills. That’s why your membership begins with a structured onboarding process that builds a solid foundation for your woodworking journey.
Here’s how it works:
-
Orientation & Safety Online Course
Your first step is our online training: 11 short videos and quizzes covering shop culture, rules, and safety. Once you complete this, you’re cleared to start using the shop right away.
-
Hands-On Woodworking Course (within 60 days of joining)
Next, you’ll choose one of two required courses, each designed to help you gain skills and confidence:
• New Basic Woodworking Course – A 3–4 hour hands-on session that introduces essential tools, core skills, and shop etiquette. Member price: $100.
• Introduction to Woodworking Course – A project-based class that goes deeper into techniques and tool use while you build a project. Member price: $250.
Even if you already have woodworking experience, these classes are valuable. They reinforce good shop etiquette, give you the chance to pick up tips and processes from other knowledgeable woodworkers, and set you on the right path for continued learning.
By starting with this blend of orientation and hands-on practice, you’ll gain the confidence to use the shop effectively while building a foundation to grow as a woodworker.
Flexible Membership Commitment
We know committing for a full year can feel overwhelming, while a one-month membership often isn’t enough time to build skills or see results. That’s why we’ve structured memberships around a three-month minimum.
Three months gives you:
-
Enough time to start and complete a project.
-
Flexibility to adjust if your schedule or interests change.
-
A fair chance to experience the full benefit of the community before deciding how long you want to stay.
And if you’re having the fun we know you will, you can extend your membership as long as you’d like.
