It’s been a little while since my last update. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the earlier posts for context and a few sample videos.
I’ll be honest—I hit a bit of a creative wall after making the first couple of videos. I wasn’t completely happy with how they turned out, and that frustration sent me back to the drawing board. I also fell into the trap of thinking everything needed to happen right now. But between a full-time job and keeping the shop running smoothly, there just aren’t enough hours in the day.
So I’ve reset my expectations and given myself a more realistic goal: to get one full course online this year. That feels both manageable and motivating. To make it work, I need a production process that’s simple to set up and flexible enough to operate while others are working in the shop.
I’m pretty comfortable on camera—years of performing have helped with that—but I’ve never been big on using a script. That said, after reviewing the early videos, I’m realizing a script might actually help keep me focused. It’ll also open the door to using more voiceovers, so I don’t always have to film during quiet shop hours.
Next up: writing the script and building a shot list. I’m hoping to share some of that here next week. With a solid plan in place, I can shoot clips as they happen—out of sequence if needed—and still end up with a polished final product without staying late or shutting the shop down.
Thanks for all the encouragement—your feedback really helps keep me going.
See you in the shop,
Steven
