Make a Serving Tray — September 1 & 8

September 1 @ 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

$125.00 – $150.00

Beginner · No Experience Needed

Build a cherry serving tray with real casework joinery — and take it home ready to use.

Schedule: Two Tuesday evenings — September 1 and 8, 2026 — 5:30–8:30 pm

What you’ll learn

The serving tray is the first project on our ladder that people immediately want to give away. It looks like furniture, it lives on a coffee table instead of a shop shelf, and it teaches you the joints that show up in every box, drawer, and cabinet you’ll ever build.

You’ll learn:

  • Reading a cut list and milling stock to dimension
  • Cutting rabbeted corner joints on the table saw
  • Cutting a stopped groove to capture a panel bottom
  • Squaring an assembly during glue-up
  • Easing edges with a round-over bit
  • Applying a food-safe finish
  • Installing hardware cleanly, after the finish is on

The cherry tray you’ll build and take home — 18¾” × 14¾”, with stainless bar pulls.

Who it’s for

Anyone. No experience needed. If you’ve built with us before, this is the class where your joinery starts looking intentional; if this is your first time in a shop, you’ll be walked through every cut. It’s also a genuinely good gift project, which is worth knowing in October.

What’s included

  • All lumber, plywood, hardware, and finish
  • All tools and equipment
  • Expert instruction in a small group
  • Your finished serving tray to take home

How it runs

Two evenings · 3 hours each. Mill, cut, and join in the first session; assemble, sand, finish, and mount hardware in the second. The glue and the finish get a full night to cure between sessions, which is honestly how the tray wants to be built.

Class size is limited to 4 students.
