The Joinery Shop

In the Zone

This past weekend, I finally had the chance to build some tables for the new lounge area in the shop. I used the basic Shaker End Table design from the Introduction to Woodworking class but added a few personal variations. I was thrilled to complete all three tables in just one weekend! This was my first opportunity to use the shop for a personal project, and it was indeed a joy.

It’s hard to believe it’s been about a year since I transitioned from my personal workshop to The Joinery workshop. During this time, I’ve focused on building the business, teaching classes, and assisting members with their projects. However, I hadn’t taken the time to create any furniture for myself. Working in a fully equipped and functional workshop made me appreciate the convenience of having the right tools and accessories at my fingertips. I could seamlessly move from one process to the next without the hassle of setting up and taking down tools, as I had to in my old, cramped workshop. If I made a mistake (as we all do), my previous setup was still in place, making it easy to recut quickly.
With the recent addition of hardwood lumber for sale and the lounge area, the experience has only improved. I no longer worry about transporting wood to the shop or running out of materials. Plus, I could step into the lounge, grab a soda, and unwind when I felt tired or frustrated.

It was refreshing to finally enjoy the shop as a user instead of just managing it. Thanks to the new dust collection system, even cleaning up at the end of the day was a breeze.
Having your own shop can be wonderful, but after working at The Joinery, I can honestly say it has exceeded my expectations. With great tools ready to use, supplies readily available, and a supportive community, it’s an incredible place to be!

I know this sounds like an advert for The Joinery, but I wanted to share with you the excitement that I am feeling about this new space and how excited I am to be able to share it with you, too.
