Real Estate Moves Slowly
I had hoped to have a better update for everyone around this time, but the wheels of justice real-estate move slowly. Nothing terrible has happened, and we can hopefully still hold to the schedule in the last update. But we are still working out the lease agreement and getting all the details sorted out.
On the flip side, I found a great deal on a Kiln. I know, in woodworking, kilns are not needed, but for doing glasswork, they are. We would like to include a lot of stained and fused glass classes in our schedule. Speaking of classes, I said I would have more information for you all in this update. Since we don’t have a building yet, I don’t want to commit to a schedule, but here is a taste of some of the classes we are working to offer in the first year. Once the building is lined up and we can solidify dates, we can publish a schedule with course descriptions and outlines.
- Introduction to Woodworking – This class will run for six weeks, meeting 1 day a week.
- Making a marquetry memory box.
- Laser Marquetry Posters
- Making a Whiskey Cabinet with or without Stained Glass
- Making a custom Corn Hole game
- Learn to Make Picture Frames
- Make an End Table
- Making Christmas Ornaments the high-tech way
- Make wooden cards for all occasions (Birthdays, anniversaries, bookmarks)
- Introduction to Stained Glass – This class will run for six weeks, meeting 1 day a week.
- Fused Glass Jewelry
In addition to classes, we will have members-only events like the following:
- Monthly Meetups to just hang out and talk shop.
- Skills Nights – come and learn to use one of the tools in the shop or learn a new hand tool skill.
- Demonstrations – various skills, techniques, or products demonstrated by experts.
And to get everyone involved, we’ll have public events like:
- Monthly Open Houses
- Pinewood Derby nights – free use of tools to help build pinewood derby cars.
- Craftsman Showings
- and more.
We have many great things planned, and the feedback we have been getting has been incredible. We can’t wait to get in the building and get everything set up to start making sawdust.
