Sorry!

It’s been too long since my last update. I promise I will do better going forward. That will be true because we are about to really get moving.   But I’m getting ahead of myself.  Let me bring you up to speed.

Last we talked, we found a building and worked on the lease details.   Our lawyer really had an uncomfortable feeling and suggested a whole new lease based on how bad the one they provided was.  Obviously, the landlord was against that, so we provided a mountain of feedback and, ultimately, an addendum to the contract.   Why all this bask and forth?  Well, the lease was written in a way that did not seem hospitable to a business like ours.   The responses to our notes really sealed that they had no interest in leasing to a woodworking club.  So, we pulled out.

Next, after looking around and finding nothing, we decided to return to a building that I had looked at two years ago and fell in love with.  It was much too big and would be a big risk, but after some lengthy discussion, we decided to make an offer.   I called on a Monday and was informed they had just signed a lease on Friday.  Did I mention that the building had been empty for two years?  I guess it wasn’t meant to be.

Desperate, I started calling local storage facilities and warehouse rentals.  One phone call leads to another, and I finally found a building.   Hopefully, this will be the building to start the Joinery.  It is a little smaller than I had wanted, but it is a nice building in a good area and is low-risk.  We are working on a one-year lease with the option to renew, so we have options if we need more space.

I have learned that it’s not over until we have dotted all the “I”s and crossed all the “T”s.  But we are told that within the next week, we should be in a good place.   If all goes well, we will get into the building in mid-August to shoot for an October opening.

So hang on because it is about to get really busy around here.
