The First Of Many

For those of you tagging along on our journey, it would be nice if I started doing some brief updates on a somewhat regular basis. For now, I will start out bi-weekly, and we will see how it goes.

As you’ve seen, we now have a website at www.thejoinery.club. This is where this blog will reside, as well as a form to fill out for those interested and who would like to receive these update emails. This form will help us better understand what type of response we will have and, therefore, plan accordingly for space and tools. So please fill out the form and spread the news about the Joinery and this site.

We are making good progress on forming a company, getting insurance, planning for a shop and finding the necessary tools. The one area that is plaguing us is finding a suitable building. This is part of the reason we started the website and are looking for feedback. It is easier to balance the space vs cost playing field with a clear picture of how many people and what type of membership they want. We are looking for around 3000 SF, which is wide open. So far, the market in the Middleton area is low on commercial/industrial space of that size. There are larger locations that are out of our budget range and smaller locations that may limit our ability to get members. We just haven’t found the “Goldilocks” of buildings just yet. We are keeping our eyes open and are ready to jump if the right location opens up. If you know of anything opening up or if your brother-in-law knows a guy who has a place, please let us know.

In the meantime, we have some other things cooking and are looking into some ideas that don’t need a permanent location. We’ll have more on these ideas in our next update.
