Community Action
I am a strong believer in community. I truly believe that without my community I would not be who I am today and I believe that its only right to give back to others. One of my passions is working to empower youth by creating a web of adults that truly care about them and help them to succeed. For the Last seven years I have lead the local community action team working with parents, law enforcement, municipalities, the school district and other civic and religious organizations to create a healthy environment for our children to thrive.
I have always been big on community going all the way back to my Scouting Days. Even after I was married and before kids I was a Scout Master in the troop I grew up in. I loved seeing the boys learn and grow into great leaders.
After our move from Texas to Wisconsin I left scouting but the call to help the community was still great. I eventually became a volunteer firefighter. For ten years I learned everything I could because I never wanted to be in a position to not be able to help someone in need. I quickly moved through the ranks and be came a Captain and held many positions including president.
Through the work with the Fire Department I saw many things that kids did to harm themselves and as a father with, at the time, one young son this began to weigh heavily on me. Something needed to be done. Parents needed to understand the dangers that their kids were facing and the kids themselves needed to understand the ramifications of their actions. Prescription Drug abuse had become a big issue, so I went to a group that was just starting out to address teen use of alcohol and convinced them that drugs were just as big of a problem in our area. I quickly became the head of this group and over the past seven years have grown it into an organization that has done big things and had brought the community together to work on issues facing our kids.
