X-Carve Dinning Room Table Retrofit

A year or so back I made a Dinning Room Table out of found walnut.   The boards had aged in my shop for a couple of years and seemed dried and ready to go.   After a few months with the finished table in the house.  The top started to crack and eventually split along one of the seems.  My plan was to let the table climate for a few months, then cut the table and half and rejoin the seem.

My wife came up with a better idea.  She thought we should accentuate the crack and add dovetail inlay.   So, that is what I decided to do.   I uses the X-Carve to make the dovetail pins and then cut out the pockets with chisels and a trim router.    I sanded down the entire top and applied  new Dutch Oil and finished it with a water based poly satin finish.

Overall I am very pleased with the outcome.
