Drew’s Chessboard

This past weekend my oldest son Drew crossed a major milestone in his woodworking career.   He completed a project from getting the idea, learning about the process, planning the project through wood prep, cutting and finishing all without the help of his father.

Yes, it is a bitter sweet day for me.   I am very excited that A) he still has the desire to create with his hands, and B) that he has learned enough to go out on his own to complete a project.   On the other hand it is kinda sad to think that he has grown to this point and from now on he will need me less and less.

My hope is that I will always be able to stay relevant in his life and that although he may not need me, he will continue to want me around.
