Welcome to The Joinery, a shared woodworking school and community. Our goal is to provide a welcoming, safe, and inspiring environment for everyone—from absolute beginners to experienced makers. This Membership Policy outlines our membership levels, benefits, onboarding steps, and expectations so you know exactly what to expect before joining.

Artist Membership — $400/month #
A dedicated private studio space inside The Joinery for makers running a working practice. Application only; approval required.
Tool Storage Add-on — $10/month #
Add a storage tote to any membership if you want to keep a set of tools at the shop.
Quarterly Billing — Optional #
The Joinery Membership can be billed quarterly ($285 every three months) instead of monthly if you would rather pay less often. This is simply a billing preference — it is not a required commitment and carries no extra benefit. Monthly is the standard, and it is the safer choice if you are not sure how long you will be staying, since a quarterly term that has renewed runs the full three months and is not prorated.
Hands on Training #
If they have not already done so, all new members are required to take a hands on course from The Joinery within 60 days of joining. We find that this helps to set the new member up for more success as you will learn the tools and capabilities of the shop as well as work directly with one our our instructors. You can choose from the 4 hour, 1 session Make a Tool Tote class or the 10 hours full Introduction to Woodworking course.

Cancelling Your Membership #
Membership renews automatically each month until you cancel. You can cancel anytime from your member account — that is the only way to cancel. We cannot cancel a membership by email, phone, or in person; we will point you to your account so it is done correctly.
Cancelling stops future payments, and your membership stays active through the end of the month you have already paid for. Dues are non-refundable and partial months are not prorated. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least five (5) days before your renewal date. Payments are queued and processed ahead of that date, and a cancellation entered inside that window will not stop a charge that is already in motion. See the Membership Agreement for the full terms.
Cancelling stops your next renewal — it does not undo a payment that has already been made. If your membership has already renewed, cancelling now ends it at the close of that paid month rather than refunding it. We want to be plain about that, because it is the situation that comes up most.
Is There a Commitment? #
There is no contract, and you can cancel anytime. That said, we ask that you come in planning on at least three months. Woodworking has a real learning curve, and the members who get the most out of the shop are the ones who give themselves enough time to get comfortable in it. One month is rarely enough to know what you have.
If You Take a Class Before Joining #
Many people choose to take a class before becoming members.
Class cancellations, rescheduling, and missed sessions are covered in our Class Attendance, Rescheduling & Refunds policy. In short: cancel at least 7 days before the first session for a full refund or a transfer into a later cohort.
